In 2006 the province had a population of 3,015,361 .The capital city of the province is Urumiye...
%80 of this population is Azerbaijani Turks

since 2003 American invasion, kurds talk about that ''urumiye is a kurdish citiy '' :D like kerkuk :)
wow !

why? because many kurds moved there ...(!) oh realy ? that means urumiye and kerkuk are kurdish cities ????

WESTERN AZERBAIJAN IS A HISTORICAL TURKISH LAND... LIKE KERKUK

i'm not sure how accurate that poll is but even if it is that's just urumiye. turks are scared to even enter cities like sardasht and mahabad let alone make up a majority. maybe in some of the cities in north part of west azerbaijan province but no way 80 percent throughout. azeris already have azerbaijan. kurdistan is the land of the kurds.

also, it is the opposite of what you said. urumiye and kerkuk are kurdish cities in which arabs and turks have moved to.

here's a joke... what would happen if donkey's eyes lit up in the night time? tabriz would look like las vegas.

Western Azerbaijan is Historical Turkish Land?!!!

Just afew questions can help to figure it out:

1. Is "Azerbaijan"/"Azarabadgan/"Adurbadgan/"Aturpatgan" a Turkish name?!

2. (this question is more important than the first one:) What is the Pure, Non-Invented Turkish word for "Historical"?!! Are u gonna say Arabic "Tarih-sel"?!!

Conclusion:

Dont talk about the stuff that are not ur properties such as "Azerbaijan" and "History", otherwise prove us "Azerbaijan" is a Turkish name and Turkish got a pure non-invented word for "history"!! :D

Also, have you ever been in Urmia? Have you ever visited Silwana, Moana, Daiti, Rajan... Kurdish villages there?! What abt Shno, Mahabad, Tekab, Piranshar, Somay Bradost cities?! You may check it out that Iranian administer last week mentioned "West Azerbaijan as the Historical Land of Kurds..." 8) :D You can ask your Gray-Worms there!

as far as I know Urmia was founded by Assyrians, however the real inhabits of that area where the meds. So no its not turkish azerbaycani and I dont think that the origin of the "turkish speaking" people there is turkish, but rather iranian! The same with Mesopotamia...the population is arabized however the oring of those people is a mixture of akkadians-hurrians.

@Rumtaya

The original residents of Urmiya were Medes and Pre-Aryan Indo-Europeans. Assyrians came later from Mesopotamian Nineveh. However the name is considered to be Assyrian "ur-city" + "miyah-water". Anyway in the book of "Historical Position of Ancient Hegmatana" written in Persian, it says the main river of the city is called "Dataw" in Kurdish and "Sheher Chayi" in local Azerbaijani Turkish. They claim the "Dataw" being "Dat-aw" which the first part is just the developed form of ancient "Daiti" a river close to the birthplace of Prophet Zarthushter (Zoroaster).

No doubt that Turcophone people of Asia Minor (from eastern Bulgaria to Baku) are generally nothing but same as the local people just speaking the language of Central Asian Invadors (Turks). About Mesopotamians atleast they share same roots with Arabs: khmara = 7ammar = donkey, khmsha = khams = 5, shmsha = shams = sun, demm = damm = blood, aana = ana = I... But exactly nothing in common between Indo-Europeans and Central Asians except the Indo-European loans in Turkic Languages!

Anyway there Kurdish, Armenian, Assyrian and Turcophone Iranians live in peace. However sometimes I have faced Armenians hating Assyrians becuz of religous reasons or some debates between Kurdish and Turcophone Sunnis with Turcophon Shiites over there.
