Red Cross to open centre to produce artificial hands, limbs in Kurdistan Region
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) reported the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said it will open a center to manufacture artificial hands and limbs for amputees in the Kurdistan Region.
The KRG released a statement on Monday (August 22) announcing Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received a delegation from the ICRC headed by Katrina Ritz, the head of the ICRC in Iraq.
Both sides discussed the region’s economic situation, the fight against Islamic State (ISIS) militants and Mosul operations, the KRG stated.
Ritz reiterated the organization’s commitment to work with the KRG in all fields, particularly in humanitarian aid and health.
According to the KRG, Ritz informed the KRG premier the ICRC would offer a center to produce artificial hands and limbs for the Ministry of Health after the center is constructed and opened.
Barzani reaffirmed the continuity of assistance and relations between the Kurdish government and the ICRC.
Both sides agreed the local and international communities were prepared to welcome and provide assistance to Iraqi displaced people who are expected to flee operations in the city and area of Mosul.
