In my 16 years of school, highschool, military service and now university - I have done several such presentations, "Kurdish Evenings" and such - to spread awareness about Kurds and Kurdistan...
What I find most important to present, is initially history, ethnic and linguistic kinship - and also society in Kurdistan. Also, I think it's important to present Kurdistan's natural beauty - through pictures. If possible, I think it's suitable to let people hear Kurdish music and see Kurdish clothes. Whenever I did a presentation or organized "Kurdish Evening"s - I wore Kurdish clothes myself - and asked some of my assistants to also wear Kurdish clothes - for example, I would make the teachers at my school and some classmates to wear Kurdish clothes (especially important to stress the female versions - since they are more diverse from region to region than the male one)... It is vital that you use audio and visual, and if possible also practical, instruments - such as images, music, singing, dancing etc. ---- I have sometimes brought up a couple of people to the front to teach them steps of Kurdish dances - it is a very nice way of breaking the ice and losing the formality...
Here is my suggestion to how you should present Kurds and Kurdistan:
1) A short oral introduction: Who are the Kurds?
2) A slideshow of pictures from scenarie in Kurdistan - although initially starting with a map of Kurdistan.
3) A map of a language-tree - showing Kurdish as part of Indo-European languages.
4) Picture of Kurds: elders, men and women working, weddings, funerals, children playing and other situations will be of great help to show what society in Kurdistan is like.
5) Show religious diversity and tolerance: pictures of Christian, Muslim, Êzidî, Zerdeshtî etc. holy shrines/temples and places... Lalesh is an important institution in ancient native Kurdish religion: Êzidism - which along with Ehlê-Heq and Elewî part of Yarsanism (Cult of Angels)...
6) Present the first Kurdish alphabet in Latînî standard as produced by Celadet Bedir Xan...
7) A short informational monolog about the last centurys Kurdish struggle for self-determination: "When, why and what went wrong?" - here you will speak of: Treaty of Sèvres (show map), Wilson Woodrows 14 points, Treaty of Lousanne (show map) and what happened later: Shêx Seîd, Republic of Ararat, Republic of Mahabad, Mella Mustefa Barzanî, Qazî Muhemed, Telebanî, Mustefa Barzanî, Abdullah Öcalan and Qasêmilû - here you can add whoever you find important to mention... Important thing is to give a short introduction and explain why they are important to mention!
I think the best way to end your presentation is to echo this line in the mind of the audience:
"It must be like the Kurds have always said: *We have no friends but the mountains* - How else could a 40 million strong nation, be stateless?"
I wish you the best of luck with your presentation and hope you do a good job in presenting to them the Kurds and Kurdistan...
