ASSYRIA

http://www.aina.org/articles/chicago.htm

Have a look at this site... some interesting facts about the Assyrians - but on the other hand - these are what I would call lies:

Between 1915-1918 during World War I, Turkish and Kurdish forces massacred 750,000 Assyrians. The survivors of this Assyrian holocaust were scattered throughout the Middle East, Europe and North America.

What is this??? ANY people who stands up is saying "WE WERE GENOCIDED AND HOLOCAUSTED!" - ALL EXCEPT THE STUPID KURDS! WE SHOULD DO THE SAME... AND GET SOME MUCH NEEDED SYMPATHY :P

And the OTHER article that is very worrying:

http://www.kurdishmedia.com/news.asp?id=7129

The UK - has only NOW found out that they will support an Assyrian Autonomous Region - which we could be because they are mostly Christians...???

This would then be ASSYRIA

Image

Here - Assyria as part of the ROMAN Empire

Image

AND THIS WAS HOW THE MIDDLE EAST LOOKED LIKE BEFORE - THE YELLOW PART IS US (MEDIAN EMPIRE) AND THE PINK ONE IS THE ASSYRIAN EMPIRE...

Nope - OE - They aren't... Although they are a SEMETIC people - they are not Arabs and not Jews - they were the FIRST people to accept christianity and they speak a langauge akin to Aramaic... And some do speak Aramaic...

The main point for an Assyrian state is that they are like the Kurds an indigunious people and are entitled to much of the land between the two rivers... Their last capital was Nineweh - which today has been substituted by Mosul...

The funny thing is that the dances, musis and clothes we have are copied by the Assyrians... They have their own version of our trousers (shalwar) and "kiras û fîstan" - womens dresses... If we look back at historical recordings we can see that the Assyrian national clothes looked alot like the Babylonian and Egyptian style of clothings... I am of course only making "a picture of what they looked like" - I have no idea how they really looked... Maybe I can find some pictures on the net...

Diri,

So, what is the viewpoint of an avarage Assyrian?? Are they comportabe among Arabs, or do they get along with kurds better?? More importantly, do they have the numbers to have a state???

Worldwide there are about 4 million Assyrians - same as there are Palestinians... but Assyrians have a mix of Kurdish and Arab culture... They would feel more comfortable among Arabs if Arabs weren't so narrowminded towards Christians...

Kurds are more tolerant and secular than the average Arab... SO they feel more comfortable among us I would guess... The KRG has restored more than 20 churches for the Assyrians... They can't wish for a better host than the Kurdish nation...

And even though the UK wants to give them a place of their own most Assyrians in KRG territory (I am guessing) would not like to have such a place - because that would make their community MUCH more a target than what it is now - You can hear about terrorists breaking and bruning Christian licker stores and churches and stuff.. so if they are all in the same place they definatly will be attacked by terrorists...

And Assyrian state would at LEAST incoorporate paarts of Mosul, most of Nineweh province and some parts of Kurdistan...

But I am sure the people that would be most angry with such a happening would be the Ezdanî - they inhabit many areas around Mosul and Sinjar--- So that would perhaps become a struggle for land between the two religious minorities... - Assyria has been nothing but a word since 612 BC... thats 2617 years ago...

Hahahahaha :D Maybe they are still living in the year 600 BC - when they had one of the GREATEST empires of the time... And we Medians had our empire just north of Assyria... but still - what should we do about them? Maybe we should give them the land that is between the two rivers - from Basra to Mosul - excluding Mosul - it is Kurdish ;)

Give them the land where the Arabs live in Mosul. Then they can call it Assyrianstan.
The suppression of ethnic cultures and minority religious groups in attempting to forge a modern nation were not unique to Turkey but occurred in very similar ways in its European neighbours - Bruinessen.

Hahaha

Assyrianstan - Very good Welatêmîr! you are a quick learner! ;) For those who didn't get that "Stan" means "stole/stolen" in this case it would mean "Assyrians stole (the Arab part of Mosul)" :P

HI! Rumtaya! :D

Glad to see you are here! ;)

Thank you for coming - and I look forward to a lot of sharing and friendhsip building! :D

Don't need to be formal - You are more than welcome! ;)

I think too that Assyrians have more to do with Kurds - because we have shared land for so long - and we have a long history together... I also think Assyrians are in more contact with Kurds because you live in the same places as Kurds do and because KRG makes a effort to give Assyrians their rights and to give them services like other people in Kurdistan Region like Turkmen and Cheldean...

Your map is interesting - Do you know how many Cheldo-Assyrians live in Duhok and Ninawa?? Because I am wondering - In Duhok provine there are mostly Kurds... So what would the Assyrian state do about the Kurds?

Don't you think that it is more fair to hold a refferendum to see where people live? That way we could see where Kurds and Assyrians live - and divide the land between us... In Ninawa tehre are some Arabs - what would the Assyrian state do about that? And how about the Turkmen? Do you think they would also ask for a state when Assyria becomes a state?

I don't know if the sources are reliable - but according to all the places I see and read that there are about 100 000 - 200 000 Assyrians - And there are at most 500 000 Turkmen...

we dont want it Assyristan cause we dont steal our own homeland isnt it right.

I hope you aren't insulted - that was meant as a joke ;) No bad feelings...

I am very for an Assyrian state - But I think it is important to view it in todays light... Naturally Assyria was almost ALL of Iraq before... But now there are few Assyrians left in Iraq... So if Assyria incorporates Duhok - the Kurds there would probably be angry... They make up the majority and we have a histrical claim to it too - just like Assyrians do...

I suggest Assyria gets all the land on the West side of Tigris... That way you can have Mosul and many other important Assyrian places...

there is a thing what i want to know from you guys

did you know that a a big part of todays assyrians livied not only in northen iraq also in the southeast turkey, like my grandpa is original from the hakkari district and there is the village of my clan its called jamba t kurdaye the funny think is the word kurdaye like you know kurds. the name is so cause my clan had some kurdish neighbours which lived in a harmony together and my grand pa had kurdish field worker who came to him and ask him sometimes what to do if they wanted like to build a house or so like ploitcal things.
