do people in kurdistan have dogs as pets???? ive always thought that dogs were drity & scary....

a dog attacked our kurdish mullah and his wife. they wife was trying to protect a little baby girl and the dog bite her chest and hands and then the husband was trying to get the dog off her he got bite really bad in his arms and legs
the neighbors had to kill the dog to make him stop.

It is so funny - some years back my parents wanted to get a pet for the family - my father said - DOG and my motehr said - no they are dirty according to Islam - we will have a CAT - so the discussion led to us not having any of them I only have had some birds - and some aquarium fishes

But yes- Kurds do have them as pets - specially dogs - but the difference is that Kurds usually don't take them into their houses... A dog belongs outside - so goes the rule!

But we had MANY dogs when I was a child in Sêro - I always loved them so much - I have many photos of me hugging and playing with them They got small babies and I loved them so much... we had the real deal -Kurdish guard dogs - they prevented wolves and bears from attacking our sheep and cattle...

Yeap i used to ask my dad why is it haram to have dogs, he'd say it isnt haram but they arent house pets.. They belong to be out side and protect ur farm or garden.. sumthin like that!

Turks call it "Kangal of Sivas" actually. Sivas is of course in the OUTERMOST northwestern border of Kurdistan, and we could even discuss if it is Kurdistan anymore.

But the Kangal is very widespread all over Turkey and northern Kurdistan. A HUGE dog that is used by shepherds to defend the sheep from wolves. Kangals don't give a damn about wolves as it is twice as big and twice as strong. Two to three Kangals can usually keep a big wolfback at bay. Wolves of course, do not engage in battle with Kangals if there is a risk of any members of the wolfpack killed. There is always another day for hunting, and every member of the wolfpack is needed in every hunting.

Are Kangals used in any other place of Kurdistan? Because if it isn't, then it's very hard to call it a pure "Kurdish" dog. Kangal exists all over Turkey and northern Kurdistan, which is why Turks call it "Turkish".

If it doesn't exist in other parts of Kurdistan, then start importing it so we can call it pure "Kurdish".

Plus, what's wrong with what I wrote? I won't claim that Sivas in Kurdish if the majority living in Sivas aren't Kurds.

You think Sivas is Kurdish because you've been told that. I've been in Sivas, have you? There was no "kurdishness" in Sivas as there is e.g Amed, Shirnak, etc. I mean, even the Zaza's in the area is a small minority.

This issue goes back to the issue about Kerkuk. You can claim that Kerkuk is Kurdish, but if the majority in Kerkuk ain't Kurdish, then it's NOT Kurdish. Easy as that.

If you think that Sivas is Kurdish, then prove it to me. Write down 30 politicians from Sivas that clearly states that they are Kurdish. Write down 30 intellectuals. Write down 30 other prominent Kurds from Sivas. Write down whatever you think is Kurdish in Sivas and which you can prove.

Sivas population is: 752.828

If over 50% of them are Kurdish, then more than 376,414 people are Kurds in Sivas. So there should be no trouble for you to find me that list.

If you can't do that, then don't come here and play a big-shot nationalist. You are simply a boy with a big mouth with nothing to prove your statements.

If you are aware of the Kocgiri uprising in March 1921, then you know that it was in the vicinity of Sivas. (Between Sivas and Dersim.) The reason that the Kocgiri's failed was that the people in the area (a.k.a Sivas) didn't feel "connected" to their cause, and this was back in the time when Turkish assimilation had still not made any effect on Kurds or in Kurdistan. Which means that the demography was much "cleaner" and "untouched" than today. (The Turkish assimilation process was conducted systematically AFTER the Dersim revolution.)

Be at least a bit scientific in your claims. I wish the whole world was Kurdish, but it ain't and will never be. But I can at least prove that SOME areas of this world is Kurdish, and Sivas is not one of them.

You should be more worried about Turks changing LATIN names of animals in Kurdistan. Not about the Kangal.

Plus, a DOG doesn't make you more Kurdish and it doesn't make the Turks more Turkish. It's also MUCH harder for you to prove that Kangal is a pure Kurdish dog when Kangal exists ALL over Turkey and northern Kurdistan. I also asked people, IS THERE KANGALS in OTHER parts of Kurdistan? If there are Kangals in other parts of Kurdistan, then it's MUCH easier for you to prove that Kangal originated from Kurdistan. If there ain't, then stop doing cheap nationalistic propaganda, because it's more embarrassing than helpful.
